U.S. WWII Draft Cards Young Men, 1940-1947 Name Ralph Peter Klinge Birth 18 Feb 1910 Wilmette, Illinois Spouse Mildred Klinge Ralph Klinge age 96, a lifelong resident of Wilmette, Illinois died on Friday, November 17, 2006 in Midwest Palliative & Hospice CareCenter, Skokie, Illinois. Mr. Klinge was born February 28, 1910 in Wilmette, Illinois to William and Anna Rau Klinge. As a young man Mr. Klinge worked at Klinge & White grocery and meat market on Ridge Rd, in Wilmette, Illinois. At age 13 he started driving delivery trucks. At age 18 worked for Illinois Bell Telephone and at 21 started at Montgomery Ward where he became buyer, National Retail and Catalog Sales Manager of Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning, retiring in 1975. Mr. Klinge(tm)s civic activities included serving a Village Trustee for three terms (1951-1963). During this period acted as observer and coordinator of the planning commission and active in new zoning laws. He was involved in the expansion of the water works and was a leader in a successful referendum to build a Municipal Garage and Fire Station No. 2. In 1923 he participated in the first organized recreation activities conducted by the newly formed Wilmette Recreation Department. Thirty years later he was appointed to the Wilmette Village Recreation Board (1953-1961 and (1965-1970), the last three years on the board he served as Chairman. He helped develop the first public outdoor artificial ice rink and the first Curling rink in Illinois at what is now Howard Park. Wilmette Bowl programs and the 4th of July activities were inaugurated. In 1963 the Village Board appointed Mr. Klinge to serve as a member of the board of Directors of the Peter Jans Golf Course located in Wilmette and Evanston, serving as president from 1983 to 1985. The Village Board appointed Mr. Klinge to a new Wilmette Housing Commission in 1978 for a three year term. This lead to the establishment of Shore Line Place a not for profit corp. in 1982 with Wilmette resident Dave Meskill as President and Mr. Klinge as Vice President. In 1977 he was appointed to a new Village Museum Board, served from 1977 to 1981. In 1988 Mr. Klinge was appointed to the Senior Resource Commission which publishes a booklet on Senior Citizen services available in Wilmette. Mr. Klinge was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Wilmette where he served a delegate to the North Shore Interfaith Housing Council from 1972-1986. He was also active in the R.C.I.A. program and serves as an Eucharistic Minister to the homebound. He is survived by his children Mary Helen (Robert) Drucker and Bill Klinge; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wives Mildred Tracey Klinge and Marjore Salmen Klinge.
