Sheila was daughter of Joseph Stokes and Elizabeth O Keeffe of Gortdromagowna, Knockanure. Sheila Broderick is survived by her husband John Broderick children Joe, Katherina, Declan and Eilish, daughter in law Elane Shine, grandchildren Amy and David, brother Sean and sister Queenie. Requiem Mass for Sheila was concelebrated in St Mary's Listowel on Monday last by Fr Crean Lynch assisted by Fr Mc Mahon Knockanure, Fr Shine Moyvane, Fr Maher Asdee and Fr O Neill. Brian Carr cousin who was accompanied on the Organ by Stephen Donegan sang hymns. A beautiful poetically composed touching letter written by Sheila's family was read to the congregation. After Mass the day being dry with a stiff breeze many walked after the Hearse to the New Cemetery in the Ballybunion road where Sheila Broderick was laid to rest. The Board of Management of Knockanure National School wishes to extend its deepest sympathy to the husband, family, brother and sister of the late Sheila Broderick [nee Stokes] who died recently. |

| Notes : E. PAUL SLICK, 87, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, of small cell carcinoma. Born March 20, 1920, in Walkerton, Ind., he was the only child of the late Milo B. and Myrtle Bell Slick. He married Winifred "Wina" Forman of New York in October of 1943. He was a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he earned his B.S. in electrical engineering in 1942 and his Masters in theoretical physics in 1948. As a new graduate of Notre Dame when the U.S. was entering World War II, he applied his knowledge to defense electronics efforts at GE in Schenectady and Syracuse, New York. During this time he worked with the "Rad Lab" team at MIT where critical wartime radar research was underway. After World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps where he "reverse-engineered" German weapon systems. He later worked on developing early-warning and fire control radars. After moving to Fort Wayne to work for Philo Farnsworth, he contributed to the development of the Starlight Scope and night vision goggles. During his 50 year career in defense electronics (Magnavox Electronic Systems Company and General Dynamics) he was part of a team that researched and developed a variety of cutting-edge defense systems, including satellite communications systems, GPS, frequency hopping radios, the helmet sight system used in helicopter gunships, battlefield laser detection and suppression systems, magnetic anomaly detection and guidance systems for multiple missile platforms including the Sidewinder and cruise missiles. He was also part of pioneering electronic warfare efforts to exploit enemy satellite systems for communication and the development of anti-jam communications systems which were used by NATO and the U.S. government. He had a lightning quick intellect and irreverent wit. During his long battle with cancer, he remained stoic, fatherly and upbeat. Even in his last weeks, he discussed music and science, told jokes and recited his infamous poetry. He was not afraid of dying and said he looked forward to meeting Euclid, Newton, Edison, Galileo, Einstein, Feynman and other great scientists. He was always an intellectual inspiration to his family, and sought to learn and teach at every opportunity. In the end, he taught his children how to face death. He leaves his beloved wife of 64 years, Wina; seven children, Paul (wife, Molly) of Tucson, Ariz., Pam (husband, Tom) of San Diego, Calif., John of Nashville, Sue (husband, Bob) Moore of Fort Wayne, Sally of Indianapolis, Nancy of Seattle, Wash., and Tom (wife, Sherry); seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
